Moonee Valley Early Years Plan

Our Moonee Valley Early Years Plan

People, places, partnerships for children

After extensive community consultation, together with the Moonee Valley Early Years Reference Group, we have developed the Moonee Valley Early Years Plan (pdf, 2.4MB). We have also developed a summary of the plan (pdf, 772KB).

Our vision is that:

"Moonee Valley will be a city where all children and young people have fun, learn, play safe and thrive in a community that is active and socially connected."

The plan focuses on families from pregnancy through to children 12 years of age and sets out what the community, services and Council want to achieve for Moonee Valley's youngest citizens over the next few years.

To develop the plan we spoke with children, families and local services.

Children's Week 2015

During Children’s Week 2015 we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Australia signing the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

One of our activities included delivering a Rights of the Child Governance Forum in the Council Chambers. Approximately 50 children from eight local primary schools attended the forum with their teachers. The Mayor of the day, Councillor Narelle Sharpe facilitated the session where 10 children played the role of Junior Mayor, Councillors and Chief Executive in a Junior Council Meeting and children’s questions about the rights of the child were included in proceedings.

During this forum children had the opportunity to ask the Mayor a range of questions and enjoyed their experience. Here are some photos from the forum:
