Moonee Valley City Council is preparing for the next stage in the long term shared vision for the Crown Street Stables in Flemington.

Over the past three years, we have carried out substantial work to preserve the Stables as an important piece of Mooney Valley’s sporting and architectural heritage, including replacing the roof and repairing the trusses. This year, we will also repair the floor and stairs, lighting and toilet facilities.

Previous community consultation brought forward a wide range of ideas for the future use of this significant site. In response to this feedback, we have prepared a draft concept plan for the development of the Stables as a new arts and community space.

The Crown Street Stables have the potential to become a vibrant focal point for community arts in Flemington by providing a unique and much needed venue for local community art expression, and a valuable asset for the area.

The draft concept plan (pdf, 2.05MB) includes an exhibition space with a visual arts focus, workshop space, the potential for a café and space for community use.

For a hardcopy of the draft concept plan call 9243 8888.

You can send your feedback to James Buick, Manager Arts and Culture, Moonee Valley City Council, PO Box 126, Moonee Ponds 3039 or by email to council@mvcc.vic.gov.au by Wednesday, 4 November.

The feedback gathered will inform the development of final concept plans, and, subject to funding, it is hoped the new community facility could open in early 2011.

For more information, please contact James Buick on 9243 8888.
