Spirit of Moonee Valley awards

The Spirit of Moonee Valley Community Awards celebrates the outstanding achievements and contributions of the citizens of Moonee Valley. It is about recognising those people in the community whose service and contributions have had a significant effect on the life or lives of the citizens with Moonee Valley.

Who is eligible for these awards?

Nominations can be for people from all spheres of the community. Any individual, community organisations, business, professional bodies or similar groups can nominate or be nominated for an award.

We all know someone who we look to as a local hero. This could be a neighbour, colleague, relative or friend. Someone who embodies the Spirit of Moonee Valley.

Nominations for 2011 have now closed.

What are the nomination categories?

The Mayor and his fellow Councillors have given the awards a new look for 2011, which include three award categories instead of the previous nine categories.

  • Meritorious Award
All nominations will be initially judged at this level. Suggestions for nominating can be for contribution to arts and culture, sport, family, neighbourhood, youth, older persons, environment, business, etc. It is open to single, group or business nominations.
  • Outstanding Service Award

  • Citizen of the Year
The recipient of this award will have been chosen as a successful nominee from both the Meritorious Award and Outstanding Service Award. This person will have demonstrated leadership, initiative and example and made an outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of a positive “community spirit” within the City of Moonee Valley.
