The Youth Engagement Strategy (YES) 2009-2013 (pdf, 1.1MB) aims to include young people aged 12 to 25 years in every aspect of our City’s life. Over the next four years, all our work with young people will be shaped by the idea of "Inclusion, Opportunity and Choice – every young person is a citizen".
What you told us
Last year, almost 500 young people living or studying in Moonee Valley completed our survey and told us that:
- they valued community strengths such as, cultural diversity, people supporting and respecting each other and opportunities to socialise and meet new people
- their feelings of being safe or unsafe contributed to whether they either liked or disliked living in Moonee Valley
- they want opportunities to be involved and help out in our community
- they suggested that to make Moonee Valley a better place for young people, we should provide opportunities for them to have a say, and run youth support services
You can read about our consultations in the YES Consultation Report (pdf, 1.27MB).
What we're going to do
Based on your feedback, we have developed five areas to focus our youth and community work on.
- Civic engagement – enabling participation
- Community participation – providing opportunity
- Health and wellbeing – strengthening capacity and building ability
- Education and employment – creating futures
- Network and service coordination – inspiring collaboration and partnership
Get involved!
YES has a focus on our partnership and collaboration with young people and community-based organisations that support young people in building their own lives and contributing to the community.
