Get ready for a busy few months with plenty of events and activities to enjoy while the weather is warm!

Here is a guide of what’s happening locally this summer at Council venues and facilities.

The Active Utility

Various days and times

Look out for our Active Utility at parks and reserves across Moonee Valley this summer. Our team will host unique pop up events and provide fun equipment to use throughout our parks.


Starts Monday, 9 January

Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, corner Langs and Epsom Road, Ascot Vale

The VICSWIM program is a low-cost community aquatic education and water safety program for Victorian kids. The program involves lessons on both swimming and survival in a range of aquatic environments.

Riverside Golf, Tennis and Netball Open Day

Saturday, 21 January, 10am–1pm

Riverside Golf and Tennis Centre, Newsom Street, Ascot Vale

Try any of our fantastic programs and services at Riverside Golf, Tennis and Netball Centre for free! There are programs for children and adults.

Riverside Golf, Tennis and Netball Holiday Clinics

Monday, 23 January to Wednesday, 25 January, from 9am–1pm

Riverside Golf and Tennis Centre, Newsom Street, Ascot Vale

Riverside Holiday Clinics are a great way for your child to have fun and improve at their preferred sport with our highly qualified coaches.

Super Splash

Every day in January when the temperature is 30 degrees and above!

Queens Park Swimming Pool, 13 The Strand, Moonee Ponds

East Keilor Leisure Centre, Quinn Grove, Keilor East Cool off at Queens Park this January! Join in the super splash fun when the mercury hits 30 degrees or above with games, giant pool inflatables and water bumper boats.

Two Week Intensive Swimming Program

Starts Monday, 9 January

Queens Park Swimming Pool, 13 The Strand, Moonee Ponds or East Keilor Leisure Centre, Quinn Grove, Keilor East

Get a head start this year with your child’s swimming development with a 2 week intensive swimming program. 30 minute lessons every day (Mon-Fri). Enrol in one or two weeks.

Melbourne Tennis Week 

Monday, 6 FebruarySunday, 12 February

Various tennis clubs across Moonee Valley

Together with Tennis Victoria, we’re coordinating Melbourne Tennis Week, with a number of free events and activities taking place at Buckley Park Tennis Club, Doutta Galla Tennis Club, Essendon Tennis Club, Keilor East Tennis Club and Maribyrnong Park Tennis Club.

No matter what your level, come along, get on court and give tennis a go this summer!

Valley Vibes

Saturday, 11 February, 4pm–8pm

Victory Park, corner Epsom and Langs Road, Ascot Vale

Bring your friends and family to a concert in Victory Park. Bring your own chairs or rug and pack your own picnic, or purchase food from vendors on the evening. Chill out to a stellar musical line up

Moonee Valley Festival

Sunday, 26 February, 10am–5pm

Queens Park, Moonee Ponds

Celebrating 40 years of fun! Queens Park will come to life for a fun summer day with exciting rides, live music and performances by your favourite community groups. There will be plenty of demonstrations, activities and ways to get involved. Enjoy free entry into Queens Park Swimming Pool on the day of the festival too. Girl's AFL 9s Pre-Season Challenge

Saturday, 18 February, 8.30am-12.30pm

Walter Street Reserve, Ascot Vale

The Girl's AFL 9s Pre-Season Challenge will feature round robin AFL 9s competitions with local under 15 and under 12 teams from the Essendon District Football League.

The event is a great opportunity for local players and fans alike to get involved with the sport they love. 

As the AFL prepares to launch its women’s league on Friday, 3 February, more girls and women are getting involved in football locally. Keen to support this growth, Council, AFL Victoria and the EDFL have come together to promote the sport.

Little Kids Big Day Out

Thursday, 9 March, 10am–12.30pm

Woodlands Park, corner Woodlands Street and Carnarvon Road, Essendon

Keeping the little ones entertained just got a whole lot easier. Enjoy free activities to get the kids moving, plus face painting and craft projects. Pack lunch and a picnic rug for this free community event for pre-schoolers and their families.

East Keilor Leisure Centre Open Day

East Keilor Leisure Centre, Quinn Grove, Keilor East

Experience everything East Keilor Leisure Centre has to offer for free, including gym, swimming, group exercise and lots of fun activities!

Mediterranean Fiesta

Sunday, 26 March, 12noon–4pm

Centreway, Wyong Street and Wingara Avenue, East Keilor

Centreway turns into a piazza for this vibrant community event. Celebrating the area’s rich heritage, the Mediterranean Fiesta is a chance to catch up with neighbours, friends and family while enjoying cooking demonstrations, kids’ activities, dancing, live music, and gardening displays.

Every day during summer

There is so much to do and see in Moonee Valley in summer. Here are some ideas to get you out and about! 

  • Junior Rangers is a fun way for kids to interact with local flora and fauna in parks across Moonee Valley.
  • Visit Moonee Valley Athletics Centre, the perfect location for a casual workout.
  • Check out the school holiday activities at Flemington Community Centre
  • Get on your bike and cruise one of Moonee Valley's many picturesque bike paths.
  • Grab a coffee at one of many local cafes and stroll around the Maribyrnong River.
  • See a show at the Clocktower Centre.
  • Visit the Essendon Traffic School with the kids.
  • Join a community garden or visit a local farmers’ market - they bring a true slice of rural life to the city and provide the Melbourne community with an opportunity to meet and directly support Victoria’s regional producers.
