Kitchen organics

Organics

Now you can help keep organic material out of your general rubbish bin using this innovative kitchen organics bin, along with a home compost or worm farm to recycle your food waste.

What are kitchen organics?

  • Vegetable peelings
  • Fruit scraps
  • Tea and coffee grounds
  • Egg shells
  • Flowers

Why divert kitchen organics?

Currently kitchen organics make up anywhere between 20 and 30 per cent of the average household rubbish bin. At present, much of this organic material goes to landfill where it breaks down without oxygen and produces leachate, a toxic pollutant greenhouse gas that is 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Compost bins

Composts bins and tumblers are currently out of stock.

Compost bins and tumblers available for sale at the Transfer Station.

Residents who buy a compost bin or tumbler will receive a free kitchen organics bin.
