We have endorsed the draft Moonee Ponds Activity Centre (MPAC) Heritage Assessment to go out to the community for feedback. In March 2011 we appointed a heritage consultant to undertake an assessment of all potentially significant sites within the MPAC. The consultant has now completed a draft report which identifies five sites comprising of eight individual properties which are considered worthy of inclusion in the Heritage Overlay.
The draft report recommends that we prepare and exhibit a Planning Scheme Amendment to apply the Heritage Overlay to each of these eight properties. The purpose of the Heritage Overlay is to conserve and enhance heritage places and ensure that their significance is not compromised by inappropriate development. If applied, a planning permit would be required for any external works, alterations or demolition.
