Ascot Vale Leisure Centre revamped

before-and-after

After months of tireless work by our staff and construction crews the changerooms at Ascot Vale Leisure Centre opened earlier this month weeks ahead of schedule.

This comes after a burst sewer pipe put the leisure centre out of action for a couple of weeks back in March and forced the closure of the changerooms.

So why did it take so long so you ask? Here’s the rundown.

When repairing the damage caused by the sewer pipe, we discovered asphalt from where the original building entrance was all those years ago, as well as remnants of the old squash court and viewing platform! Solid brick walls and awkward steps into showers were limiting space and causing issues. We also found the original brown and yellow tiles – can’t believe they ever went out of fashion.

What did all this mean? It meant we needed to dig up the asphalt, knock down the brick walls, and cart off many a skip load of concrete in order to start replacing the pipes.

Given the extent of the works required, we decided to bring forward upgrade works and instead build brand new state-of-the-art changerooms.

The new changerooms have been completely redesigned and are family-friendly, environmentally-friendly, modern, accessible and inclusive.

New features include ambulant toilets and showers, junior toilets, additional change tables and upgraded lighting to help reduce emissions.

We’ve also changed the layout so instead of members and public changerooms we now have wet and dry changerooms. The wet changerooms are accessible from the pool deck while the dry changerooms are designed for users of the gym and group fitness classes.

So make sure you get your togs out or dust off the sneakers and head down to Ascot Vale Leisure Centre!
