Voices of Moonee Valley meet in-person for the first time at the end of 2020.
If you love to sing and would like to work with Australia’s most famous choirmaster, Dr Jonathon Welch AM, then this is your opportunity! Voices of Moonee Valley community choir is back singing together in 2021. Rehearsals will be in-person at the Clocktower Centre, as well as, on Zoom every Friday from 11 am to 12.30 pm starting in term 1.
Voices in Moonee Valley began in early August 2020 at the start of Melbourne restrictions and finished on a high note in December with a stellar video of The Turtles classic ‘Happy Together’.
Dr Welch is looking forward to working with the singers face-to-face this year, socialising, the music trivia and especially finishing off the practice with one of his corny ‘dad’ jokes.
Last year was very stressful in so many different ways. “Singing and laughter is a great combination. And with food, it’s even better,” Dr Welch said. “We’ll be able to share some morning tea because social interaction is just as important as singing.”
Ann Ramsey, a retired teacher, comes from a singing family and was inspired by her niece to join her first choir. “A leaflet arrived in my letterbox from the Council during COVID,” she said. “Well, I’ll take this opportunity and join.”
Everyone is welcome. “The thing about choirs is people come together because they are like-minded and passionate about music and from that grows some really lovely friendships and connections,” Dr Welch said.
As for which option Ann Ramsey will choose. “Probably a combination of both,” she said. “I will come in person as long as COVID doesn’t rear its ugly head again. And I’ll be masking up, sanitising and keeping my distance.”
