Moonee Ponds commuters are set for some significant improvements to their local station, thanks to a funding blitz from the State Government.
Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll made the announcement earlier this week, with Moonee Ponds one of 16 stations to share in the $24 million worth of upgrades.
Works will include new passenger information screens, public address equipment and disability shelters, extra car parks, toilet facilities and bike racks.
More than 600 jobs are also expected to be created.
Moonee Valley Mayor Samantha Byrne welcomed the announcement.
“Moonee Ponds station is so heavily used and can sometimes struggle to keep up with demand. These improvements will make a world of difference for our commuters, making it safer to travel and easier to access.”
Integrated Transport portfolio holder, Cr Andrea Surace, said it was a win for local commuters.
“We want to create a healthy and environmentally-friendly city and one of the many ways to do this is to have less cars on the road. If improvements like these encourage more people to use our public transport system, then that’s a good thing.”
We’re continuing to advocate for better public transport options for our community, including a station at Airport West.
