Talk about #rallymooneevalley, these locals have been recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Thank you for all you do for your community.

Mr John Larter from Avondale Heights for service to softball

Mr Larter has a long history umpiring softball at a state and national level including his time as State Director of Umpiring for Softball Victoria from 1994-2000.

He became a life member of Softball Victoria in 2018 and has a scholarship named in his honour.

He’s also been involved in the Keilor Park and District Softball Association where he served as President from 1984-1990.

Mr Bruce Sun-You Lew from Essendon for service to the Chinese community of Melbourne

Mr Lew has been a member of the Chinese Community Society for around 70 years and served as Treasurer from the 1960s to the 1980s.

He’s involved in a number of other groups within the Chinese Community including the Chinese Language School.

Mrs Julie Anne Limbach from Moonee Ponds for service to the community through social welfare initiatives

Mrs Limbach has volunteered with the St Vincent de Paul Society for more than 30 years, is a member of the St Monica’s Moonee Ponds Branch and is the Coordinator of the Mathew Talbot Soup Van Footscray on Sunday nights.

Speaking about Mrs Limbach at the June 9 Council Meeting, Cr Jim Cusack outlined the many hours she spends co-ordinating the Soup Van and donations as well as organising uniforms and other school supplies for children in need.

“She’s been involved in referrals for domestic violence, she’s taken ill people to hospitals, she’s been very much involved in organising accommodation for people,” he said.

“Very recently in her own generosity, there was a woman who didn’t have either shoes or a coat in very inclement weather and took the coat off her own back and gave her her shoes.

“This is the kind of person we have in our community, well deserving of such an award and bringing a lot of hope to people in the Flemington and across the Footscray areas.”

Mrs Limbach has also held various positions at local tennis clubs including St Ambrose, St Monica’s and Royal Park Tennis Club.
