What's happening now?

If you walked past the construction site today, you would be able to see walls going up on the main building.

If you could see behind the fences, you'd see spaces laid out for the outdoor pools and frames starting to be developed for roof structures.

We have a camera on site that takes photos every ten minutes during certain hours of the day. Now you can see behind the fence - check out the pictures!

The project is on track for opening in mid-2021 and we can't wait!

What's already happened?

We said goodbye to our old centre with a weekend of free activities and entertainment.

Then it was time to knock down the old centre.

And since then the site has been cleared, and construction is well underway.

Frequently asked questions

Why are you rebuilding the centre?

East Keilor Leisure Centre plays a key role in supporting local residents to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing. Over the years the centre has been improved and upgraded, but the pools and the centre facilities were at the end of their serviceable life and would soon have become beyond repair.

When will the new centre open?

The new centre is on track to open in mid-2021.

Who will manage the new centre?

A procurement process is underway and our intention is to award a management contractor in late 2020.

What will the fees be for the new centre?

Fees and charges are being prepared for Council's consideration as part of the annual budget process. We will know these amounts closer to the time the centre will open.

Will there be an outdoor pool?

Yes, the design includes a 50m heated outdoor pool (seasonal - November to March inclusive).

Will there be a creche at the new centre?

A creche has been included in the designs for the building which the management contractor is expected to operate.

What will happen to the synthetic soccer pitch next door?

We plan to continue utilising the synthetic pitch during the redevelopment. However, we need to ensure the construction works do not pose a safety issue for players. We will liaise with users of the soccer pitch regarding any impacts.

Is there any impact on Essendon Keilor College located next door?

There is no impact to the operation of Essendon Keilor College, however the East Keilor Leisure Centre car park is not accessible for school pick up and drop off. We will continue to work with the school throughout the project.

How can I get an answer to a question that's not listed on this page?

Please email leisure@mvcc.vic.gov.au if you have a question that hasn’t been listed here. Please note, as we haven’t yet appointed an operator for the centre, we don’t have specific answers about the pricing, programs or operating details as yet.

We will update the above questions closer to the centre opening in mid-2021.
