What you need to know

Libraries

Our libraries are more than books. In Moonee Valley you can book a room or computer, listen to music, exercise, print and photocopy, recycle, borrow seeds for a garden, learn new skills, join a book club and so much more.

Libraries update

Niddrie Library and Ascot Vale Library will be closed to the public from Thursday, 2 July.

This is in line with the directive from the State Government regarding the stay at home order for ‘hot spot’ suburbs.

We have a very important municipal public health prevention role to play in reducing community transmission. The intention is to reduce the spread, reduce infections and allow for a sooner reopening of the local economy.

Please visit our library catalogue for details of the services we are able to provide.

FAQ

We have implemented the following measures to ensure customers feel comfortable visiting our branches:

  • Cleaning more frequently
    • We have increased our cleaning and hygiene program to ensure our branches are safe for you.
  • Providing hand sanitiser
    • Available at the entrances and throughout each of the branches. It must be used to enter the Library.
  • Applying social distancing rules
    • Maintaining at least 1.5m from others inside the branch, and whilst lining up outside. We will be adding markers and signage to guide you.
  • Contact tracing
    • In line with current Federal and State Government Guidelines, your contact details will be required upon entry to ensure that contact tracing can take place. This is for the purpose of contact tracing only and will not be used for any other purpose. All details will be kept in a secure location. We appreciate your understanding and are very pleased to welcome you back to the Library.

In line with government restrictions, there will be a cap on the number of people in each branch at any one time, this is dependent on branch size and the space available.

Our current limits are:

Sam Merrifield  20 people

Niddrie 11 people

Avondale Heights 11 people

Flemington 10 people

Ascot Vale 2 people

Note – due to building works at Avondale Heights Library and Learning Centre only the Atrium space can be accessed via the courtyard.

We ask that you please keep visits short so that as many people can enjoy our service as possible and lines can be kept to a minimum.
