Geographic naming proposal

Renaming of Leisure Facilities

Moonee Valley City Council (Council) is proposing to rename four leisure facilities. They include:

  1. East Keilor Leisure Centre, Quinn Grove, Keilor East Vic 3033
  2. Queens Park Swimming Pool, Corner Pascoe Vale Road and The Strand, Moonee Ponds Victoria 3039
  3. Riverside Golf Course, 55 Newsom Street, Ascot Vale Victoria 3032
  4. Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, corner Langs & Epsom Road, Ascot Vale Victoria 3032

This is in accordance with:

  • Council’s Place Naming Committee, who have provided in-principle approval for these names subject to community feedback and approval from Geographic Names Victoria
  • Council’s adopted Aquatic Leisure Centre Plan 2014-23 which identified “improved Council branding will create greater awareness of Council’s programs and services, encouraging healthy lifestyle choices and promoting residents to be active physically, mentally and socially”; and
  • Council’s MV2040 Strategy and vision for a healthy city.

To support this, it is proposed each facility will be renamed in accordance with the location and service available. These proposed names include:

  1. Keilor East Aquatic & Fitness
  2. Queens Park Aquatic
  3. Riverside Golf & Sports
  4. Ascot Vale Aquatic & Fitness

All name submissions must comply with Naming rules for places in Victoria – Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2016.

All votes and submissions to this naming proposal must be received by 19 July 2020.
