What’s a 20-minute neighbourhood?

The 20-minute neighbourhood is all about living locally, giving people the opportunity to be within a 20-minute walk or cycle from shops, transport and services.

Council’s long term plan for Moonee Valley, MV2040, revolves around our 13 neighbourhoods.

Our aim – to create a fair, thriving, connected, green and beautiful 20-minute neighbourhood.

What’s happened in Strathmore?

In 2019, Moonee Valley piloted a 20-minute neighbourhood program in Strathmore, with the support of the Victorian Government, the Heart Foundation, and Victoria Walks.

To build a 20 minute neighbourhood we created a pop-up park, threw a street festival and a movie night, and did a walkability assessment. You can read more about the pilot program here.

What’s next?

We are excited to announce the State Government’s Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning have funded Council to deliver a community parklet and a mobile library.

Our community parklet on North Avenue is a place for all members of our community to sit, relax and connect with each other while supporting our great local businesses.

There’ll be lots of activities over the coming months including visits from our new mobile library in early 2021.
