UPDATE 9 September 2020: Concept plans for the new Flemington Hub and Debneys Park precinct have been endorsed, with works to begin in 2021.
When we asked what you wanted in a new Hub for Flemington, overwhelmingly you asked for a place where you felt a true sense of belonging – somewhere you could relax, work quietly, learn, meet old friends and make new ones.
This is the vision for our new Flemington Hub, to be delivered in 2023 – a place that feels like an extension of your own living room – another place between work or school and your home.
To create a sense of warmth and welcome, we are designing many different spaces that meet the needs of everyone in our vibrant community.
This means spaces for socialising, learning, working, gathering and playing that are flexible and well equipped to meet your needs, depending on how you feel and what you want to do.
From small comfortable nooks where you can chat with a friend, to open light-filled spaces where you can meet as a group, or warm sunny spots to read or study – there is something for everyone.
We also know that food and cooking is central to bringing people and communities together. Whether you’re visiting the kitchen garden, enjoying a coffee at the hub’s cafe or catering for an event in the commercial grade kitchen, food lovers will feel right at home at the hub. This means we can also celebrate and experience the wonderful cultural diversity of our community through our taste buds!
Outdoor areas that overlook our beautiful leafy park are another key feature of the designs. There will be different areas that are designed to allow you to sit back with others in a relaxed setting and enjoy the park.
Our priority is to create a space envisioned by and for our community. We are excited at how the design work is shaping up and look forward to sharing with you the results of everyone’s time, efforts and fabulous ideas when we release the designs in the coming months.
We’ll be continuing to update you between now and then on how things are progressing.
