You may have seen a story in the latest Moonee Valley Leader newspaper about a proposed apartment building on the site of the Mt. Alexander Retirement Lodge at 957 Mount Alexander Road in Essendon.
We wanted to clear up a few things.
The Council did vote to ‘Issue a Notice of Decision to Grant a Planning Permit’ – but only if a number of conditions are met – including removing an entire level so the building’s in line with the preferred height for the area.
That means a Council-approved complex could only be five storeys high (not six as reported) and won’t be taller than 18 metres.
With the whole third floor removed, the number of apartments will also change.
Before any building can take place, new plans would need to be drawn up and endorsed.
While both the permit applicant and any objectors to the development have a right to appeal Council’s decision.
