A refreshed wardrobe without spending a cent
Moonee Valley City Council is partnering with Melbourne Clothing Swap to host the Youth Fest 2026 – Clothing Swap on Saturday, 26 September at the Djerring Flemington Hub, where participants can refresh their wardrobe, save money, and support sustainable fashion.
Australians throw away six tonnes of clothing every 10 minutes. Which is why many are now embracing the circular economy approach and taking part in a clothing swap.
Young people, aged between 12 to 25 years, are invited to bring along clean, pre-loved clothing and accessories, then browse items brought by other participants and take home some new-to-you pieces. It’s ideal for anyone looking to refresh their wardrobe, reduce clothing waste, and connect with others in the community.
Mayor of Moonee Valley, Dr Rose Iser, said the upcoming school holidays are a perfect time to clean out the wardrobe and set aside good quality garments that are no longer worn.
“This event covers off sustainable living, renewing your fashion options, and keeping things affordable – all important issues for Moonee Valley’s young people. It’s a guilt-free and fun sustainable shopping experience without spending a cent.”
“Simply give unwanted items a quick once over to check they are free from stains and damage, making sure that there is plenty of wear left in them. Then come along and be part of a local sustainable fashion event,” Cr Iser said.
This event is being held as part of Youth Fest 2026 - a month-long program this September to build connection, celebrate diversity and support young people’s wellbeing.
