What you need to know
Cr Samantha Byrne (Mayor)
I am a lifelong, proud and passionate Moonee Valley resident and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that I have to represent this municipality. I live in East Keilor with my husband and daughter. I currently work at the local Community Health Centre, where my hours are shared between being a Podiatrist and co-ordinating a respite service for the elderly or those living with dementia. My interests include spending time with family, long runs around our beautiful parks and waterways, playing netball and socialising with friends.
What five words best describe you?
What do you hope to achieve in your term as Councillor?
Our parks, gardens and open spaces are some of our greatest community assets. I would like to increase our commitment to quality open spaces and see a greater number of sporting facilities for men and women in Rose Hill.
I also want to increase community spirit, involvement and engagement in our neighbourhoods by introducing initiatives such as food trucks, farmers markets, dog parks and small festivals and events.
An important first step in achieving this is to have your say in consultation on our long-term plan for Moonee Valley. I encourage you to get involved in this consultation and help us to shape the future of our great city. Sharing your ideas on what is important to you and your family will ensure that we get our long-term planning right.
I also hope to promote the value of local council to a younger audience - particularly on social media.
As a collective, we need to work on a cohesive plan to implement a Moonee Valley Planning Scheme which will control the overdevelopment in our municipality.
What do you think are Moonee Valley's greatest strengths?
The open spaces, beautiful parks, rivers and creeks.
