Strategic planning and amendments

A planning scheme is a document that has two main sections:

• The first outlines what we see as the future direction for land use and development in Moonee Valley. It also has policies on issues such as heritage buildings, the environment, and car parking.
• The second contains zones and overlays, which show you whether a property is for residential, industrial or business use. They detail what you are allowed to do on your land.

You can view the Moonee Valley Planning Scheme, including zoning and overlay maps, through the Department of Transport and Planning website .

A planning scheme amendment makes changes to the planning scheme. An amendment may be required to implement a new strategy or plan, to update local policies, rezone land, or apply a land overlay.

Before an amendment can be prepared, the proposal must be authorised by the Minister for Planning.

Fees for Planning Scheme Amendments are set by the State Government and levied at different stages of the amendment process.
