Moonee Valley City Council is working with Melbourne Water to update flood models that help predict and map out where flooding is likely to occur.

This work helps ensure that future developments are better designed to avoid the impacts of flooding in extreme weather.

This is part of a broader program being carried out by Melbourne Water for Councils across Victoria.

Types of flooding

Scientists are observing changes in our climate. While overall rainfall may decrease, storms are becoming more intense when they do occur. National flood modelling guidelines now include climate change scenarios.

In Moonee Valley, there are two main types of flooding: stormwater flooding (also known as flash flooding) and riverine flooding.
