Childcare centres

Strathmore Children’s Centre was initially opened in 1986. In 2012, the centre was redeveloped to offer an 81-place early learning education and care service, including a funded 3-year and 4-year integrated kindergarten program and maternal child health services.

A team of professional early childhood educators and teachers foster children’s learning through an evolving curriculum listening to children’s voices and advocating for their rights, using intentional teaching strategies and collaborating with families to understand the “whole” child. The children’s learning and development is demonstrated through a Floorbook- inspired approach, allowing children and families to be actively involved in the curriculum and follow the journey of learning through intentional and meaningful play experience.

The team embrace and foster an inclusive learning environment that welcomes Inclusion Support (IS), and Kindergarten Inclusion Support (KIS), and work in partnership with families allowing children to access allied health assistance and National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) supports at the service.

Strathmore Children’s Centre receives School Readiness Funding (SRF), a permanent and ongoing part of the Victorian kindergarten funding model.  Through this model and within the community, children’s wellbeing (social and emotional) has been identified to be a strong focus.

Educators and teachers come together as a collective, on a monthly basis, for training and/or professional development to ensure their work with children is consistent, informed and current.

Sustainability and environmental responsibilities are important to the team, with hands on learning about the vegetable garden, worm farms and composting.

Strathmore Children’s Centre is located adjacent to Max Johnston Reserve, a community park that extends opportunities for families to come together to build on greater relationships with one another.

The service has its own off-street car park giving easy access to the service.
