Councillor’s service wins applause
Congratulations to Cr John Sipek who was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division as part of this year’s King’s Birthday 2026 Honours List.
Cr Sipek, who has served Moonee Valley as a councillor since 2006, was recognised for his service to local government and the community.
Mayor of Moonee Valley, Cr Dr Rose Iser, said:
“On behalf of all councillors, congratulations to Cr Sipek for his extensive and ongoing service to the Moonee Valley community.”
Representing Milleara Ward, and previously Rose Hill Ward, he served as Mayor of Moonee Valley in 2010-11 and 2017-18.
During his time as Mayor of Moonee Valley, he achieved wide public acclaim as a supporter of environmental and sustainability initiatives including the Moonee Valley Bees – a program promoting bee conservation and sustainable relocation of hives.
He has also acted as a Director of the Victoria Local Governance Association, Director of Municipal Association Victoria, and Director of the Metropolitan Waste Management Group.
His community work also includes supporting local Men’s Shed volunteers.
