Growing a reputation (and love) for live music
Moonee Valley City Council is committed to strengthening and supporting our live music sector, with the development of a new Live Music Action Plan. This plan has identified new activities and initiatives to build a thriving local music scene.
The plan details Council’s commitment to creating opportunities for both artists and venue owners to get involved. The Live Music Action Plan was developed in consultation with our residents, working artists, industry professionals, and venue or business owners.
Consistent themes emerged from this consultation, revealing that our residents love live music and almost half attend live music events. But also it showed the industry faces challenges that make it difficult for businesses and artists to build a long-term footprint.
The Live Music Action Plan addresses these concerns, and identifies four key action items:
- Support local live music creatives.
- Strengthen the live music sector.
- Identify and activate local live music precincts.
- Champion local music and musicians.
The plan will launch immediately and run until 2030, with the key goal of ensuring live music is celebrated as a defining feature of Moonee Valley’s local identity, venues and public spaces.
The Live Music Action Plan was developed as a key component of Moonee Valley City Council’s Arts and Culture Strategy, Igniting Creativity in Moonee Valley 23-27.
