Healthy Future for Queens Park Lake

Routine health checks are the best way for most of us to maintain our wellness and reduce risks, and the same protections are offered to our beloved Queens Park and its lake.

As part of Moonee Valley City Council’s ongoing commitment to protecting the lake’s environmental values, monthly water quality testing and monitoring is being undertaken by specialist water quality experts. This ongoing program helps track the health of the lake, identify emerging issues, and inform long-term management actions to protect and improve the site for the future.

A detailed ecological investigation was completed in April this year. A specialised Zoologist was invited to Queens Park to study the flora and fauna to better understand the overall health, current conditions and identify opportunities for improvement.

Some environmental restoration work is already underway including the installation of three additional aerators within the lake. The aerators work to increase oxygen levels in the water, supporting healthier conditions for fish and other aquatic species.

Native vegetation planting has also been installed at the lake’s edges to help stabilise banks, reduce erosion and create habitat for local wildlife.

This project will not only improve environmental outcomes, but it will also ensure the lake remains a valued place for the community.

Through these efforts, council aims to protect and enhance Queens Park Lake for future generations, supporting a healthier ecosystem for people, plants and wildlife alike.
