Local Artists invited to explore the art of projection mapping

Emerging creatives from across Moonee Valley are invited to take part in a unique professional development opportunity that will transform original artworks into large-scale projected experiences along the Maribyrnong River. 

This October, Moonee Valley City Council, in partnership with the Little Projector Company (LPC), will present The Earth After Dark Projector Tours—an immersive evening experience that uses light, projection and storytelling to connect audiences with place and environment. 

As part of the project, Council is seeking a small group of local artists to participate in a series of hands-on workshops exploring the art of projection mapping. 

Open to emerging artists, illustrators, animators, photographers, filmmakers and creative technologists based in Moonee Valley, the program offers participants the opportunity to work with industry professionals to adapt an existing artwork for projection onto a real-world site featured in the tour. 

No previous projection experience is required. 

Under the mentorship of the Little Projector Company, selected artists will learn the creative and technical processes involved in large-scale projection art, from concept development through to on-site testing and presentation. 

Workshop Program: 

Workshop One 

Saturday 15 August
2pm – 7pm
Incinerator Gallery
180 Holmes Road, Aberfeldie 

Participants will be introduced to projection art and the Earth After Dark tour concept, while exploring the tools and techniques used to develop artwork for projection. 

Workshop Two 

Tuesday 1 September
6pm – 9pm
On-site testing session 

Artists will have the opportunity to test and refine their work in the actual projection environment ahead of the public event. 

Public Projection Tour  to take place 9 October 2026.  

How to Apply 

Artists interested in participating are invited to submit their expression of interest via email to lee@littleprojectorcompany.com by Thursday, 6 August, 5pm. 

Applications should include: 

• Name, phone number, email address and suburb 

• A short artist biography and description of your creative practice (maximum 200 words) 

• Examples of previous artwork (up to 10 images and/or links) 

• A brief concept statement responding to the prompt “The earth is telling us a story…” and outlining your vision for adapting your work for projection at the Maribyrnong River tour site (maximum 200 words) 

Places Are Limited 

Only six participants will be selected to ensure a highly supported and hands-on learning experience. 

Applicants must be available to attend both workshop dates and are encouraged to bring their own laptop where possible.
