Moonee Valley lights up with art, sound and music

Two innovative events are coming to Moonee Valley, inviting residents to connect and engage with art in their local community.
The Earth After Dark projection tours will light up the night in early October, with both a walking and bike tour illuminating the streets, creeks, and walkways of Moonee Valley with animated nocturnal flora and fauna.
The Melbourne International Jazz Festival follows in late October, with a series of events taking over the Crown Street Stables and Valley Lake, encouraging visitors to connect with their natural surroundings and enjoy an afternoon of live music.
Mayor of Moonee Valley, Dr Rose Iser, announced the interactive tours as the latest instalment of Igniting Creativity arts activations.
“Our Igniting Creativity strategy has delivered dynamic results for our community and enabled four years of incredible arts activity,” Cr Iser said.
“This program leverages all the good things that we know Moonee Valley has to offer – great locations, community spirit and imagination. Whether you are young or older, it is an opportunity to explore a neighbourhood and enjoy a new, slightly unusual, experience.”
The Earth After Dark projection tours, which is proudly presented by Moonee Valley City Council with the Little Projector Company, starts at 7pm on Friday, 2 October.
The walking tour begins at 83 McNamara Ave, Airport West. A week later, at 8pm on Friday, 9 October, audiences are invited to join a Cycling Projector Art Tour departing from the Boathouse, along the Maribyrnong River.
The projector tours will contain projection artworks that Moonee Valley artists and community members have been invited to contribute to. Tickets are available via council’s website.
On 24 and 25 October, three Sound Walk events will be presented as part of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival (MIJF). Described as a “listening walk” tours, they encourage participants to walk along a set path and be immersed in the sounds of the suburbs.
One tour will leave from Crown St Stables in Flemington on the Saturday, with two other tours taking place in the Valley Lake precinct over the same weekend.
Crown Street Stables will also host a pop-up Jazz at the Stables event, as part of the popular Art in Surprising Places program. This is a free, family-friendly event.
