New bin stickers for residents who are blind or have low vision

Braille and raised-letter stickers are now being trialled in the City of Moonee Valley to help residents who are blind or have low vision. 

The stickers help users to identify their general rubbish, recycling and FOGO* bins by touch. The trial was a suggestion from the Disability Advisory Committee. 

The stickers use braille and raised letters to identify which of the three household bins it might be – either general rubbish, recycling and FOGO. 

Residents can ask a family member, friend or carer to assist with applying the sticker. They are designed to be placed on the top lid of the bin or wherever best suits the user. 

Residents can also request council officers to come to their property to apply the stickers by giving permission to enter the property. This initiative is currently being trialled to help council better understand how useful accessible bin identification is. 

Want a sticker? Call Customer Service on 9243 8888 to request one. Alternatively, they can be collected from the Transfer Station or Moonee Valley Civic Centre.
