New netball courts at Bowes Avenue are ready for competition
The upgraded, competition-ready netball courts at Bowes Avenue in Airport West have been unveiled and are now ready to use, following the official opening attended by Premier Ben Carroll and local club representatives on Friday, 16 October.
The project has delivered two courts that meet current Netball Victoria standards, along with a dedicated training space featuring practice goals. These improvements provide a safer and more functional environment for training and competition.
The courts are an important training base for local clubs, including Airport Saints Netball Club and Strathmore Heights Netball Club, supporting the continued growth of netball in Moonee Valley.
In addition to Council funding, the upgrades were made possible thanks to funding from the Victorian Government Community Support Fund and Australian Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts Play Our Way Grant program.
Deputy Mayor Phil Burn notes that the new courts are a really positive development for the local netball community:
“The original Bowes Avenue courts were old and needed repair. The new design has increased run-off areas to meet spacing standards and includes two courts, plus an additional space for training and goal practice.
“The courts now fully comply with Netball Victoria requirements and can safely host training and competition.
“They provide local netball clubs with an important facility where players can train, compete and further develop their skills.”
