Parrot Play is taking flight at Queens Park West Playground

A vibrant new playground is set to take shape at Queens Park West, and we want your help bringing it to life.

Between May and June in 2025, more than 150 community members shared their ideas, memories and priorities for the Queens Park West Playground upgrade. The feedback highlighted just how important this open space is to local families, particularly those with young children, and helped shape a design brief for a unique playground experience.

Following a professional design competition led by CityLab as part of The Playground Project, Parrot Play by Emily Floyd has been selected as the winning concept design. Inspired by the red-rumped parrots found throughout Queens Park, the design combines creativity, play and public art in a way that reflects the character of the site.

The upgraded playground will create a vibrant destination for play, exploration and connection for local children of all abilities, families and park visitors. The design includes inclusive play opportunities, climbing and play elements, and accessible pathways all centred around a striking red-rumped parrot play feature.

While the overall concept design has been selected, there is still an opportunity for the community to help shape some of the smaller play elements and features that will complement the main design.

We’re inviting community members to share their thoughts on the play experiences and features they’d like to see included. Your feedback will help refine the final design and ensure the upgraded playground reflects the needs of the people who will use it for years to come.
