Reimagining Moonee Ponds Creek makeover continues

Site location of the second stage of Reimagining Moonee Ponds Creek.

The transformation of Moonee Ponds Creek will continue, with the next stage of works set to further enhance the waterway and surrounding open space.

Melbourne Water has developed a concept design for Stage 2 of Reimagining Moonee Ponds Creek. The design has been informed by community feedback and incorporates lessons learned from Stage 1, including integrating local and Traditional Owner knowledge and values.

Stage 2 will focus on the section of creek between Ivan Street in Strathmore to the Pascoe Vale Road bridge, immediately downstream of works completed in Stage 1.

The design will introduce a more natural creek form, including a meandering channel and rockwork to slow water flow. These changes are expected to improve water quality, biodiversity and habitat.

Melbourne Water is leading the design and delivery of the project on behalf of the Chain of Ponds Collaboration Group, in partnership with Moonee Valley City Council, Merri-bek City Council, the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, and the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.

Stage 2 is jointly funded by Melbourne Water and the Australian Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program. Visit Melbourne Water’s Let’s Talk page for more information.
