Our Past, Our Future: Stories of the Valley
With young artists taking on the role of storytellers, this heartfelt project celebrates how stories shape our community and the people within it.
Through this project, young artists aged 12-25 will create personal works telling the story of how an older person in their life has made a positive impact on them or the wider community.
This could be a grandparent who shaped your childhood, a mentor who guided your path, a neighbour who always showed kindness, or a familiar face in the community whose presence has quietly made a difference.
These artworks will come together in a special one-night exhibition to celebrate Moonee Valley’s rich history and bright future. From there, the works will be exhibited across Moonee Valley, keeping these stories alive and encouraging the community to shape the future through their own actions.
Artists will have one month to produce their artwork once they have been accepted into the project.
Please note: Submitting your interest does not guarantee acceptance into the project.
Submissions will close on Sunday 17 May 2026 at 11:59pm (AEST). Late submissions will not be considered.
What artists will get:
- the chance to have their artwork displayed in a one-night exhibition for the community
- the chance to have their artworks displayed in high-traffic community spaces after the exhibition
- an invitation to a special morning tea for the artists and older persons to view the exhibition prior to opening.
- support with materials (if needed)
- 2 works will be chosen to receive a $300 art prize.
