Cloth nappy workshops
Join us for an interactive and informative workshop and learn all about the benefits of using cloth nappies for your little one. Our expert will guide you through the process of choosing, using and caring for cloth nappies. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment and your baby’s comfort.
Textile recycling programs
This year, Moonee Valley is hosting some exciting textile recycling events. Give your clothes and shoes that need a new home or to be recycled a second life at the events listed below.
Come and recycle your worn-out clothes, holey sheets, and other end of life textiles!
When you donate these items we send them to specialist recyclers to be reused and made into new products. This keeps them in the circular economy — where resources are reused instead of sent to landfill— and reduces the need for new materials.
Unfortunately we cannot accept:
- unclean textiles
- underwear
- non-textile material
- donatable goods - please take these items to your local charity shop.
For our final 2026 textile recycling event, we are bringing the event to you!
This event will be run as a doorstep collection- Simply register your address, put your allocated quantity of materials out by Monday 12th October, and our contractor will come and collect your unwanted end-of-life textiles!
Registration is essential, and eligibility criteria apply. Bookings close on Wednesday, 7 October, or when tickets allocations are exhausted.

Moonee Valley City Council invites you to participate in our first clothing swap event. Bring along up to 8 wearable garments to exchange for other items.
This is a free event.
Booking details will be released closer to event date.

Location: Maribyrnong Park Bowls Club, 195 Holmes Road, Moonee Ponds
This is a collaboration event run by Uber and The Australian Red Cross. Moonee Valley City Council is proud to be a local host for this event again in 2025.
You can book a free Uber Package pickup via the Uber app to collect your pre-loved, quality clothes from your doorstep, for donation to Australian Red Cross Opportunity Shops.

Detox Your Home
Detox your home is a program run by DEECA (Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action) to help Victorians safely manage and dispose of hazardous household chemicals. This includes items such as cleaning products, fire extinguishers, fertilisers, pool chemicals and many more.

Waste and recycling education program
We offer education programs to kindergarten and primary schools around the municipality, and occasionally we host events in libraries and Council facilities with the latest waste and recycling related knowledge. Reach out to recycle@mvcc.vic.gov.au if you are interested to find out about how you can book these information sessions with us.
Recycling hubs
We have recycling hubs in selected libraries and the Civic Centre to offer our community members free and convenient drop-off points for small items that cannot be placed in household bins. These items include batteries, mobile phones, printer cartridges and fluoro tubes. Recycling hubs are currently hosted by Sam Merrifield Library, Avondale Heights Library, Niddrie Library and the Civic Centre Customer Service area.
Soft plastic recycling is currently available at Avondale Heights Library, Niddrie Library and Transfer Station.
