‘Rosemary’ to be replaced

Rosemary statue

Moonee Valley City Council has begun work to replace a World War One monument stolen from Victory Park in Ascot Vale earlier this month.

The ‘Rosemary’ statue, as it is affectionately known, was first erected in 2015, paying tribute to the women who cared for returned servicepeople after the Great War. She takes her name from the traditional symbol of remembrance, the rosemary bush.

Council knows that parks and public spaces are a beloved part of local life for Moonee Valley, and works hard to ensure these spaces are welcoming and safe for everyone who lives in or visits our municipality.

Council does not tolerate vandalism or theft of any kind, and is disappointed this important monument has been the target of crime.

Further updates about the monument’s replacement will be shared via Council’s communication channels.
