Celebrate Children’s Book Week in Moonee Valley

From 22-28 August our libraries will be celebrating Children’s Book Week! Here’s how you can be part of the fun.

Children’s Book Week is a great chance to share the joys of reading with young people. This year’s theme is a ‘Symphony of Stories’, and with the shelves at our Moonee Valley Libraries so rich with captivating reads, there’s sure to be a story for every young reader.

To celebrate, we have compiled a list of ways you can get involved in rejoicing in children’s literature and art.

Meet some authors and illustrators at these exciting talks

Throughout the week, our libraries are hosting a series of children’s author and illustrator talks. Book into a session to learn about creative writing, explore the art of illustration, and discover the process of piecing together an enchanting children’s book.

Chris Kennett

Discover the magic of storytelling through words and pictures with author-illustrator Chris Kennett. His most recent projects include the hugely popular first reader series School of Monsters with Sally Rippin, Mr Luke’s Magic Library with internet sensation Mr Luke and Genie Snail with Bethany Loveridge. Enjoy an entertaining and interactive presentation that will delight readers of all ages.

Zeno Sworder

Zeno Sworder is an Australian author, illustrator, and artist based in Melbourne, best known for creating award-winning children’s picture books. He writes and illustrates stories that explore family, imagination, identity, and the natural world. Some of his books include Once I Was a Giant, This Small Blue Dot, My Strange Shrinking Parents.

Anna Zoebl

Anna Zoebl is an author and illustrator with a knack for writing emotionally intelligent, likable and diverse characters for imaginative readers. Her titles include This Camp is Doomed, Little Gem series, Who’s Your Read Mum, and The Most Ungrateful Girl in the World.

 

Get crafty with a bookmark design competition

Feel like doing a creative activity with your children this week? Our bookmark design competition is a great activity for budding artists aged 3-12. Here’s your chance to design the main image for our 2027 ‘What’s On for Children’ bookmark. There is also a $50 book voucher up for grabs!

Simply pick up a template from your local library branch, check the competition details, and submit your creative design. Entries open 1–31 August.
