Fireworks 2021 to showcase Moonee Valley’s young and emerging creatives

Fireworks 2021 will feature the impressive works of 32 shortlisted Year 11 and 12 students who live, work or study in Moonee Valley.
The annual VCE art prize and exhibition runs from Friday, 10 December 2021 to Sunday,16 January 2022 and gives shortlisted students the opportunity to showcase their work in a professional gallery setting.
The exhibition will open in conjunction with Bright Sparks 2021, which celebrates the artwork of Moonee Valley students from Prep to Year 10, and all works can be viewed at the Incinerator Gallery until mid-January.
Mayor of Moonee Valley, Samantha Byrne is looking forward to the opening of the exhibitions where the community can support and celebrate local talented young artists and designers.
“Fireworks and Bright Sparks are our chance to recognise the outstanding work by the emerging young creatives in Moonee Valley, and celebrate the vibrant culture of our city,” Mayor Byrne said.
“There has been such a strong appetite to create throughout what has been a challenging 18 months, and it is wonderful that the community can once again enjoy and interact with art in person.
“These exhibitions give our young people the unique opportunity to have their work shown at a professionally run gallery, inviting the whole community to participate and engage with their work.”
Shortlisted artists for Fireworks have a chance to win one of four cash prizes at the exhibition’s opening including the $500 Fireworks Art Award, $500 Fireworks Design Award, $200 Mayoral Award for Excellence in Art and the $200 Mayoral Award for Excellence in Design.
A Fireworks People’s Choice Award of $200 Art Supplies voucher will be awarded to one artist based on a public vote during the exhibition period.
Two prizes will also be awarded in the Bright Sparks poster exhibition, with both winners receiving a $50 voucher for Arthouse Direct Essendon.
Works will be judged by Visual Arts Educators Carly Richardson and Paula Lindley and Mayor of Moonee Valley, Samantha Byrne and Deputy Mayor, Jacob Bettio.
