Safer speeds coming to local streets

Speed limits in selected streets across Moonee Valley will be reduced from July, supporting Council’s commitment to improving road safety through our Transport Safety Strategy 2016–2026.

New 30km/h and 40km/h limits will apply in targeted areas within the municipality, where lower speeds can make the biggest difference, including streets near schools and residential neighbourhoods

Lower speeds reduce both the likelihood and severity of crashes, helping protect people walking, riding or crossing the road.

These changes will also create calmer, more liveable neighbourhoods and support everyday activities such as walking to school, visiting local shops and getting around with greater confidence, particularly for children, older people and people with disability.

Council will install new speed limit signs as part of these works, delivered through the Capital Works Program. The new speed limit will apply once signage is in place.

State arterial roads managed by the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) are not included in these changes. Separate DTP-led speed and safety changes are underway on several of these roads, including parts of Epsom Road and Pascoe Vale Road

This initiative is supported through the Victorian Government’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program, and is funded by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).

The map below shows the areas affected by the speed limit changes.
