A win for the Moonee Valley Soccer Strategy 2022

Good news for soccer players in Moonee Valley. After a year long process of research and consultation, the final report of the Moonee Valley Soccer Strategy 2022-2032 was endorsed by Council on 27 September, 2022.
What was involved?
The Strategy is a result of a two-stage consultation process between Council, Football Victoria, Moonee Valley sport and recreation clubs and the broader community. The process involved research, stakeholder consultation and site analysis of all Moonee Valley soccer facilities.
Purpose of the strategy
The purpose of the strategy was to look at ways to provide equitable access to quality soccer facilities that supports soccer pathways and participation. This means that we looked at how we can work through challenges to improve access to and standard of facilities now and into the future.
Why soccer?
Soccer participation is growing in Moonee Valley. Moonee Valley has six soccer clubs that operate from nine sports reserves with 14 senior sized fields, three junior sized fields and two modified junior (small sized) fields. The current participation of 1,684 players in 2021 is projected to grow to 2,263 by 2041. With a shortfall of facilities, we want to find ways to make sure everyone who wants to play soccer can participate.
Working with partners
The Strategy also introduces a new Governance Framework, that supports a partnership approach between MVCC, Football Victoria, soccer clubs and State/Federal Government to drive positive outcomes for soccer moving forward.
Looking to the next 12 months
Officers will be consulting with Football Victoria, local soccer clubs, other sports field user groups and the broader community on the site-specific recommendations, including proposed allocations and facility improvements over the next 12 months. In addition, feasibility planning will occur into the proposed facility improvements.
