Bicycle Recycling program off to a flying start

Thanks to Brainwave Bikes and our Transfer station, 197 bikes have been circulated back into the economy!

 Your donations and the support of our waste management team have enabled Brainwave Bikes to recycle nearly 200 bikes back into the economy.

What is the program about?

Brainwave Bikes is a Melbourne based social enterprise that refurbishes donated used bicycles on a large scale.

Brainwave Bikes prevents the thousands of bikes that currently head to landfill, refurbishes and tests them to offer affordable bikes for families. Furthermore, they also provide work experience and traineeships for unemployed young people with disabilities to transfer to mainstream employment.

Created as part of a partnership between Brainwave, Cleanaway, 99 Bikes and Mercedes-Benz, Brainwave Bikes is Melbourne’s first super store offering refurbished used bikes. Presently located close to the Moorabbin DFO, they have a 700sqm room and sell bikes online on their website.

Brainwave Bikes is a great choice for families wanting an affordable, quality and tested bike. Purchasing also offers customers an eco friendly option to buying a new bike.

Proceeds from all sales go to funding the trainee costs and donations of bikes to refugee and low income families.

Be part of the initiative

Have a bicycle you’re not using? Drop your bike off at our Transfer Station and Brainwave will fix it then sell or donate it. All profits go to their non-for-profit organisation and bikes are recycled and reused in the community.
