Roads renewal, kindergartens and sustainability initiatives are among the highlights of the Moonee Valley City Council Budget 2025-26.

Adopted at a meeting of Council on Tuesday 24 June, the Budget was shaped by community feedback gathered over a 4-week consultation period in May.

The Budget includes $216 million to deliver community programs and support, and a further $46 million for capital works, including:

  • renewing local roads and local area traffic management – $5.54 million
  • drainage improvement works– $3.60 million
  • Ascot Vale Library redevelopment – $1.58 million
  • building renewals and upgrades – $1.79 million, and
  • early Years Building Blocks program – $1.0 million

The Budget also provides funds to address sustainability and the climate emergency, including:

  • $1.80 million for tree planting to cool and green the city
  • $1.49 million on greenhouse gas emission reduction initiatives, including a Gas Boiler Conversion program, and
  • $2.75 million to transition Council’s fleet to electric vehicles.

The Revenue and Rating Plan 2025-29 was also adopted on 24 June. The plan lays out Council’s medium-term approach to generating the income needed to deliver on its Council Plan, programs, services and capital works commitments.

Mayor Cr Ava Adams said:

“Even in a challenging economic climate, I’m proud to deliver a bold plan that will make Moonee Valley an even better place to live, work and play.

“My fellow Councillors and I have spent several months focused on shaping a smart, future-ready budget that balances today’s needs with tomorrow’s opportunities.

“I would like to thank the community for their feedback throughout the budget process. Your contributions were vital in helping Council to create a fit for purpose Budget.

“Our services are here for everyone — from the youngest members of our community to the oldest — and this Budget has a strong emphasis on reaching those who rely on our support the most.”
