Campaign commitment backs in upgraded community bowls club

Federal MP Catherine King and Labor candidate for Maribyrnong Jo Briskey announce funds for Buckley Park bowls club.

Moonee Valley City Council has welcomed a Federal Government election promise to fund upgrades at Essendon Community Bowls Club.

The $1.2 million commitment will help transform the current Buckley Park Bowls Club site into a state-of-the-art community sporting facility.

Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King and Labor’s candidate for Maribyrnong, Jo Briskey, visited the site today, reaffirming an election promise first made last year.

The new facilities at Buckley Park will focus on expanding bowls and social opportunities for both members and non-members.

It constitutes the single biggest investment in the site in 50 years, which was last rebuilt in 1975.

Mayor Cr Ava Adams said the redeveloped facility would be an important asset for our community.

“Community sports like lawn bowls provide our community with opportunities to keep active and connect with others – both of which we know are vital for a happy, healthy life.

“Moonee Valley needs a contemporary bowls club for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

“We thank the Federal Government for their commitment to Moonee Valley.

“We have met with candidates from all major parties at the upcoming election to discuss ways we can work together for the future of Moonee Valley.”

Council will continue to work closely with members from Essendon Bowls Club, Buckley Park Bowls Club and the former Maribyrnong Park Bowls Club.
