If you’ve seen Dr Baz around the local area, you’ll know that he’s the best vaccination advocate in Moonee Valley! Dr Baz, a rescue mix of Ridgeback X Labrador, helped Council’s Targeted Vaccination Program Project Co-ordinator, Nerida encourage everyone to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

In early 2022, Nerida joined Council to design and deliver a vaccination support program to assist people in the community who hadn’t had their first dose of the vaccine, engaging them with walk-in pop-up clinics, specialist counselling, translators, transport and in-home vaccination.

Nerida saw how Dr Baz connected with people, and helped calm children, parents and staff. Community support for the program has been overwhelming.

“I’m proud that my (and Dr Baz’s) work has directly helped hundreds of people protect themselves from COVID-19,” said Nerida.

The State Government funded program saw almost 650 people vaccinated, 45 of whom had their first dose. The program provided opportunities for people to obtain information, make informed decisions and access vaccination.

“COVID is something we’re living with and anything we can do to protect ourselves and the people we love is so important,” said Nerida.

While Nerida’s role finished in November, it’s still important to stay on top of your COVID vaccinations. For more information on COVID-19 and where you can get vaccinated please visit Council’s COVID-19 webpage.

Ongoing childhood vaccination is also available and the team can assist with any vaccination so you can have other injections done at the same time. The Immunisation Team work with families as part of the ongoing childhood vaccination program and discusses vaccination at maternal child health appointments.

Childhood vaccinations continue to be available at our Community Sessions and we also operate a school immunisation program. To book a childhood vaccination please visit Council’s immunisation webpage.

Council also operates a catch-up schedule. We will plan your catch-up schedule and help book you in for one of our sessions. Contact us on 9243 1110 or Immunisation@mvcc.vic.gov.au to discuss.
