Cr Pierce Tyson elected as Mayor of Moonee Valley

Mayor Pierce Tyson

Rose Hill Ward Councillor Pierce Tyson was last night elected as the Mayor of Moonee Valley.

It is the first time Cr Tyson has been elected to the role, after first being elected to Council in 2020.

Cr Tyson will lead the municipality for the next 12 months, taking over from outgoing Mayor Cr Samantha Byrne, who was elected Deputy Mayor.

Cr Tyson, after donning the mayoral robes for the first time, said he was proud and excited to be elected to represent Moonee Valley as Mayor.

“I’d like to thank my councillor colleagues for the support,” he said. “You all bring something diverse to the group.”

“We have a lot of work ahead in the next year and your priorities are absolutely my own.”

Cr Tyson praised Cr Byrne, a fellow Rose Hill Ward Councillor, for her term as Mayor.

“You’ve served as leader of Moonee Valley with distinction, through pandemics and floods,” he said.

“ Whether you’re a ratepayer, renter, business owner, community group or sporting club – As your Mayor I’m always keen to hear from our community how the City of Moonee Valley can be better.”

“We nurture locals from cradle to the grave and I am committing to fighting for you, no matter what part of the valley you’re in,” he said.

Cr Samantha Byrne was elected Deputy Mayor for the next twelve months.
