EOI now open for organisations to support Flemington youths

A group of young people who are part of the Flemington Youth Committee gather round a table scribbling down ideas in their meeting.

Help the Flemington Youth Committee use their voice and turn their dreams into a reality

Moonee Valley City Council, in partnership with Paving the Way Forward, are calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified service providers to support our youth activities. A pool of $65,000 is available for service providers to deliver a range of activities between May 2023 – September 2023.

These activities could include anything from arts and crafts workshops, to excursions, to tutoring sessions – we want to hear anything and everything!

If you think your organisation could be a fit, express your interest to be a part of the program today!

Who are the Flemington Youth Committee?

The Flemington Youth Committee are a group of young people who have come together to develop a calendar of activities in 2023 for young people who are connected to the Flemington Housing Estate.

There has been a gap in opportunities for young people since the closure of the Flemington Community Centre. Young people have expressed a need and aspiration for a safe and inclusive place to socialise and learn, and for opportunities to participate in activities in the afternoon and on the weekends.

The Youth Committee will be responsible for determining which events, activities, and programs will be selected. YLaB has supported the committee to develop a decision-making framework to help determine which activities to be funded

Why is this initiative so important?

This program is beloved by not only the Flemington Youth Committee, but for young residents living in the Flemington Housing Estate. Supporting this initiative encourages an environment where young people feel heard, included, and valued.

We spoke to some of the committee members on what this program means to them. One committee member expressed that "this program allows people in the community including young teens from all parts of the world to learn and have a voice in their community"

"I think the program is great as we learn many new things and how was can build our community better"

- Flemington Youth Committee member

"I've learnt to hear others and how we can collectively work to make programs"

- Nabiha Mohamed

"I'm looking forward to building programs and events for the young youth and enhance the younger generations childhood"

- Nabil Mohamed

"This program allows people in the community including young teens from all parts of the world to learn and have a voice in their community"

- Flemington Youth Committee member

"I'm looking forward to see the community centre being built for kids and youth workers such as myself to enjoy the brand-new space that I wasn't fortunate enough to have as a child. This opportunity will bring in people all around the suburbs to have a fun experience that community has to offer"

-Khang

"I have learned that racism is a selfish analogy. This program demonstrated that no matter your skin colour or your country of origin, you can put a smile on other people's faces. Which is what myself and many others have been doing for the past month."

Why activity providers should get involved:

This program relies on the support of activity providers. Help break down barriers to inclusion and provide our young people  an opportunity to participate in activities. If successful in the application,  providers or organisations will develop a greater connection to residents in the Public Housing Estate. Being awarded funding for participating, activity providers will also build their profile within the Moonee Valley Council and local community.

  • Creative individuals have an opportunity to share their passion
  • Sports club can increase members
  • Organisations can build their community connections

Perhaps most importantly, this program offers activity providers an opportunity to be a part of something bigger. Help young people use their voice to take proactive action for community outcomes, and submit an EOI below.
