FestAble2022

FestAble2022

Moonee Valley’s festival to celebrate diversity, FestAble, returns to Crown Street Stables in Flemington on Sunday, 27 November from 11am to 3pm.

FestAble is held to mark International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), a United Nations-observed day that occurs every year on 3 December.

FestAble also forms part of our commitment in our strategic plan, MV2040, to celebrate diversity.

FestAble is a day for everyone in Moonee Valley; not just people with a disability, but their families, carers and friends, in a day of music, dance, art, sport, inspiration and inclusion.

Inside the Crown Street Stables there will be events including an art exhibition by Patrick Francis, and an ‘In Conversation’ with author and disability arts advocate Olivia Muscat and disability advocate Eva Sifis.

As part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign against gendered violence, there will also be a panel discussion featuring filmmaker Sue Armstrong, and an excerpt from her documentary Impatient, as panel members explore the issue of gendered violence and speaking up for change.

In the grounds surrounding the stables, there will be:

  • dance performance from Leap into Life
  • music from Voices of Moonee Valley and country musician Johnny Shilo
  • a carer’s pamper tent
  • storytimes throughout the event with the mobile Moonee Valley library van
  • a live, inclusive public art installation with artist Georgina Humphries
  • BBQ/sausage sizzle (from Special Olympics)
  • Kahoots Quiz (from Different Journeys)
  • a sensory space/quiet zone
  • Dhumnya Walan-walan (yarning circle)
  • sports exhibitions from Netball Victoria and all-abilities soccer club Avondale FC
  • a silent disco
  • face painting
  • and more!

Like IDPwD, FestAble aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with a disability – which, in Australia, is one in six people.

FestAble’s focus is on challenging the way some people might think about disability. It’s a day for people of all abilities and talents to take centre stage – and shine!

Guests to this fabulous and free event will be supported by an Auslan interpreter, accessible facilities, and the City of Moonee Valley’s Access and Inclusion team. Members of Moonee Valley’s Disability Advisory Committee will also be on hand for a chat!

For more details on the event, contact karmstrong@mvcc.vic.gov.au or visit Accessible Moonee Valley - Moonee Valley City Council (mvcc.vic.gov.au) for more information on services in Moonee Valley for people with a disability.
