Why should I get my cat or kitten desexed?

Many thousands of cats and kittens lose their lives in Australian animal shelters each year. Cats start breeding by 4 months of age and can have three litters a year with 3-5 kittens. Did you know, if left un-desexed, one female cat and her offspring, can produce 2,000 kittens in 4 years?

By getting your feline fur baby desexed, you can:

  • Improve your pet’s health and life expectancy
  • Save yourself large vet bills from health complications
  • Prevent unwanted litters of cats and dogs ending up in local animal rescues, shelters and pounds
  • Protect local birds and wildlife from being hunted and attacked
  • Help us implement the initiatives included in our Domestic Animal Management Plan

Our free cat desexing program is open to residents who live in:

  • Aberfeldie
  • Airport West
  • Avondale Heights
  • Ascot Vale
  • Essendon
  • Essendon Fields
  • Essendon North
  • Essendon West
  • Flemington
  • Keilor East
  • Moonee Ponds
  • Niddrie
  • Strathmore
  • Strathmore Heights
  • Travancore
