Get involved with Council and shape the future of your city!

Moonee Valley City Council chambers

Moonee Valley City Council is dedicated to making our part of Melbourne a great place to live, work and play.

We know Council does its best work when the community is engaged in the decision-making process.

That’s why you are always welcome to take part in Council activity – from Council meetings to community consultations and talking directly to Councillors.

Here are just a few ways you can get involved with your Council.

Attend a meeting

Meetings take place monthly, usually on the fourth Tuesday of the month.

Meetings take place in Council Chambers at the Moonee Valley Civic Centre, on Kellaway Avenue in Moonee Ponds, and everyone is welcome.

It’s a great chance to hear directly from Councillors about issues important to Moonee Valley.

You won’t be asked any questions or be expected to contribute; just come along and watch democracy in action!

Tune into livestream

Can’t get there in person? We livestream every Council Meeting, so you can watch from home.

Find the livestream on YouTube, or at our website – where you will also find links to the meeting agenda and minutes from past meetings.

The recording remains available after the meeting closes, so you can catch up at a time convenient to you.

We also recap on our website the main decisions from each meeting. Check out the latest wrap to find out what you missed.

Submit a question

Got a question for Council?

Members of the public are welcome to submit a query for inclusion during Public Question Time.

Each member of the public can submit up to two questions, and questions must adhere to a number of governance rules.

To be considered, submit your questions before 12 noon on the business day prior to the meeting, either via Council’s website, by email to governance@mvcc.vic.gov.au, by hand at Council’s Civic Centre (9 Kellaway Avenue, Moonee Ponds) or by mail (PO Box 126 Moonee Ponds 3039).

Petitions and joint letters

We encourage community members to share their concerns and requests with Council through petitions or joint letters. A petition is a written request to Council signed by multiple people requesting Council action on an issue. A joint letter is signed by more than one person, can address any subject, and must include the request of the signatories.

Petitions and joint letters can be submitted by email to governance@mvcc.vic.gov.au, by hand at Council’s Civic Centre (9 Kellaway Avenue, Moonee Ponds) or by mail (PO Box 126 Moonee Ponds 3039).

To be included in a Council meeting agenda, submissions must be received at least two weeks before the meeting and comply with the Petition Guidelines.

Come along to a Public Forum

From February this year, Council will convene a monthly Public Forum, giving residents an opportunity to present to Councillors about a topic of their choosing. Speakers each have three minutes to present, with the possibility of a two-minute extension if granted by the Forum Chair.

Like Public Question Time, Forum presentations and questions must be submitted by 12 noon on the business day prior to the meeting date.

Contact a Councillor

Did you know you are welcome to reach out directly to your Councillor?

To start a conversation with your elected representatives, drop them an email or give them a call.

You can check who your ward councillor is, and find their contact details, on the Moonee Valley City Council website.

It’s one of the most direct ways you can share with Council your ideas for or concerns about Moonee Valley.

Have Your Say

We regularly ask the community for feedback about proposed projects.

That’s where Your Say comes in.

The Your Say website lists all the opportunities currently open for consultation. You can submit a survey response, record a voice message, or contact Council in writing or by phone to provide your feedback, which is then provided to the project team to help determine their next steps.

Your Say is also where we report back to you about your findings, and keep the community updated about progress on how each project is progressing.
