March has begun and so has Moonee Valley City Council’s ‘Move in March’ program!

Twenty schools and seven kindergartens have already registered to participate, it’s not too late to register your school, kindergarten or childcare now. Schools with the highest participation rates will be eligible to go into the draw to win one of two $500 HART Sport vouchers.

Mayor of Moonee Valley, Councillor Dr Rose Iser, is encouraging all schools to get involved in Move in March.

“Besides the many health benefits for youngsters and the young at heart, walking to school has benefits for the whole community,” Cr Dr Iser said.

“It reduces traffic congestion, prevents searching for a carpark, helps us connect with family and friends and even helps save the environment! It’s a great opportunity to learn about road safety and instilling vital skills.

“There are so many great reasons to participate and best of all, getting active is more fun when you do it together!”

You can register via form on our website Move in March – Walk to School Month 2025 – Moonee Valley City Council

Simply find your school on the map and decide the best walking route to school. If you live too far to walk all the way, parents or carers can park at one of our designated ‘Park and Walk’ locations and walk, cycle or scoot from there.

Walk to School Month also has benefited from State Government’s Better Moves Around Schools Program that identifies and improves Active Paths to make it easier for students who want to ride, walk, scoot or skate to school.

“We work with schools to identify paths to school which are direct, safe, and fun and based on where students live. Footpath decals will guide students along the way,” Cr Dr Iser explained.

“Schools with Active Paths are encouraged to grab some friends and make it fun walking to and from school.

“I am excited to announce that Essendon North Primary, St John Boscos and St Vincent Primary are the next three schools to have Active Paths installed.

“This project will be funded from a grant received from the Department of Transport and Planning’s Community Road Safety grant program.”
