Have your say on Moonee Valley City Council’s Draft Budget 2025/26
Your city, your budget: Every year we prepare a budget that is guided by the priorities set out in our Council Plan and MV2040 Community Vision.
This provides funding to support our extensive Council services and to upgrade and replace infrastructure in our city.
A $44+ million capital works program and $216 million to deliver critical community services are the core items in the Moonee Valley Council’s draft budget for 2025/26.
Our Draft Budget (PDF) and Draft Revenue and Rating Plan 2025-29 (PDF) are now live and open for public consultation until Wednesday, 28 May 2025. You can also view the hard copy versions at our Civic Centre.
Some of the key budget highlights include:
Addressing climate emergencies and sustainability and investing:
- $1.80 million in the planting of street and park trees to cool and green the city contributing to a 30% canopy tree cover by 2040.
- $1.49 million on Greenhouse gas emission reduction initiatives including the Gas Boiler Conversion program that will reduce Council’s carbon emissions and energy costs.
- $2.75 million to transition Council’s fleet to electric/zero emissions vehicles.
This draft budget has also been prepared to deliver a capital works program of $44.88 million.
Some of the major capital works projects include:
- renewing local roads and local area traffic management ($5.53 million)
- Ascot Vale Library redevelopment ($1.58 million)
- pedestrian and shared path improvements ($3.27 million)
- Early Years Building Blocks program ($1.00 million)
- drainage improvement works ($2.60 million)
- sportsfield renewal program ($3.68 million)
- sportsfield lighting program ($2.41 million)
- building renewal and upgrades ($1.79 million).

When does consultation close?
Consultation commenced on Thursday, 1 May and will close on 11:59pm on Wednesday, 28 May. Formal Budget Submissions will be heard by Council on Thursday, 12 June.
