A window covered in raindrops with a tram in on the otherside, the weather is wet and grey. Words read "Thunderstorm and flood warning"

Vic Emergency has issued a minor to isolated moderate flood warning for the Maribyrnong River from overnight Wednesday to Thursday. If you live close to the river or in a flood prone area it is important that you stay informed and monitor your local conditions.

It is expected that heavy rain and thunderstorms will hit the northern part of Victoria on Wednesday 7 June until Thursday 8 June.

All Victorians should stay informed and monitor their local conditions especially if you live in a flood prone area or close to the Maribyrnong river.

How to stay informed

It is important to monitor your local conditions and stay alert

Be prepared

To help protect your home from heavy rainfall, plan ahead and take steps to be prepared. Use the Vic SES flood ready guide and check the Moonee Valley flood guide to learn if you live in a flood prone area.

You can also take these steps around the house:

  • Check your gutters, drains and drainpipes, and keep them clear of debris, toys, outdoor furniture etc.
  • Check your home, building and contents insurance. What type of flooding does it cover?
  • If you are prone to flooding or leaks at home, prepare any gaps in the roof and block areas where water can get into the house.

  • Don’t drive through flood waters – Stay safe by never driving, riding or walking through floodwater. Flood waters can rise quickly and without warning. It takes just 15cm of floodwater to float a car – that’s the height of an average pen.
